Meditation Immersion with Henry Shukman
January 9th and 10th
Saturday and Sunday 11.00-5.00
The benefits of meditation are widely known today. Even more than the mental and physical well-being it offers, it can help us face the great questions of a lifetime – who am I? what is this life? what should I do? Yet none of these fruits are available unless we set up a regular daily meditation and stick to it – and it turns out, that is not so easy to do.
Guidance and support are essential. This weekend immersion, coming out of Henry’s primary background in Zen, is designed to give us what we need to establish meditation as a foundation-stone in our life.
There will be instruction on posture, breath practice, awareness, walking meditation, and how to keep it all going daily. Henry will offer Zen talks, as well as plenty of time for questions and discussion… not to mention, meditating together. Support for our bodies, through movement and asana, will be offered through the weekend.
Beginners and more experienced meditators are both welcome. Attending the entire weekend would be best, but we understand people have obligations, and it will be structured so that it’s OK to attend either day (or even just one segment, for those who aren’t able to do more).
Henry Shukman (Ryu’un-ken), an Associate Master of the Sanbo Zen lineage of Kamakura, Japan, has been in Zen training for 25 years and is still a beginner. He is dedicated to core Zen training-clarifying our essential nature to our own satisfaction, finding peace of mind, and living every moment of daily life, in freedom, love and responsiveness. He is the guiding teacher at Mountain Cloud Zen Center in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Henry is also an award-winning poet and writer and lives with his wife Clare and their two sons.
